Burton Yirdaki's

Nathan's Yirdaki's are meticulously handcrafted, Australian made superior quality tuned musical instruments

They are made from naturally termite hollowed native Australian Eucalyptus trees harvested from the Northern Territory.

Burton Didj's are renown for their unique bell sizes, tapering into small mouthpieces, that allow for optimum backpressure, awesome acoustics, ideal resonance and extreme volume.

All Burton Didj's are individual and carry the Burton stamp of authenticity. This is burned into the bell end of every Burton Didj.

Burton Didj is now on Facebook

In the Burton Yirdaki Galleries I am using Yolngu Mata - Aboriginal language from North East Arnhem Land to name each Yirdaki.
Each name will only be used once. I feel this is important to communicate the language and connection to customers and people about the origin of the Yirdaki. Also it is one way I can acknowledge my respect to Djalu and the Gurruwiwi's whom I am and shall always be eternally grateful for their warmth, love and kindness.

Who can you trust?

Professional musicians like Xavier Rudd and William Barton all need instruments that will perform at optimum levels every time.

That's why they perform in concerts, record CD's, travel the world and are inspired to write music with Burton Yirdaki's.

Message - December 2011

What an organic journey I have traveled these past few months....the butterflies were crazy and it felt like the first time crafting again...

Nerves tingling and excitement growing I selected a yirdaki and heard the familiar sound of the machete stripping away the layers to reveal the magic hidden deep inside.

Sometimes 15kg of stripping and chiseling before the yirdaki starts to shine and sing to me.

In the picture of the Burton Rejects on Facebook and to the left you can maybe empathize the gut retching feeling when I have worked physically and mentally for hours and hours to strip one more layer and have the holes pop through like a stab to the heart! But the mother nature has decides that yirdaki doesn't make the grade.

You will notice in the galleries that I have been lucky and were able to save two with small holes
Djarra - C# and Marrma - D#-E

The other Yirdaki's have some unique physical characteristic which is always a surprise to see them reveal themselves throughout the crafting process.

I feel grounded and connected after creating these Yirdaki's and look forward to sharing this connection with you through these inspirational instruments.

Merry Christmas
Peace
Nath
